Florida Green Building Coalition Partners with SEBC in 2018
‘Green Trends’ Section in Exhibit Hall, Green Education Offered for Second Year
ORLANDO, Fl. – The Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) and the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) have announced a partnership for the second consecutive year to create a “Green Trends” zone of booths and exhibits at the annual show.
Celebrating its 40th year, SEBC will be held at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Fla., Aug. 16-17.
With a goal of education, verified third-party certifications and advocacy since being founded in 2000, FGBC is by far the largest certifier of green homes, residential communities, high-rises, local governments and commercial buildings in the state with over 17,100.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our state’s leadership in promoting and building green. SEBC continues to grow and be a must attend event for decision makers in the residential construction industry and suppliers for builders and developers,” said Drew Smith, SEBC chairman and COO of Two Trails, Inc., a world-wide sustainable building consulting firm.
On the cusp of substantial success following the housing market crisis, SEBC is proud to showcase sold-out expo halls - expanding the hall 20 percent each year - a percent growth in attendees, and 20 percent more educational offerings.
SEBC continues to offer new, engaging networking events for the building industry. This year, SEBC will introduce its BEX Event - an exclusive one-on-one event where Builders and Exhibitors Exchange ideas, proposals, and contacts to further their success in the industry.
Various educational and professional courses are offered at SEBC. Presented by a virtual Who’s Who of the nation’s home building industry, the line-up covers all the important topics – quality construction practices, remodeling, design, sales and marketing, customer service and business management, just to name a few.
Classes are divided into intensive, day-long courses and specialized seminars on the industry’s most timely topics.
FGBC will be offering two CEU credit classes on green building. FGBC’s certifications provide pathways to build green homes, developments, local governments, high rises and commercial buildings.
Unlike other national and international certifications, FGBC are only standards developed with Florida-specific criteria. They address the state’s hot-humid climate, environment, unique topography and natural disasters.

Florida Green Building Coalition has Certified Over 17,000 Projects Since 2000
ORLANDO, Fl. – The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green projects in the state, honored the top “Florida Green” certified projects Friday in Orlando.
“Congratulations to the winners and our members who are dedicated to improving the green built environment, sustainability and promoting its positive environmental, social and economic impact in our state,” said FGBC President Jeremy Nelson.
Neal Communities of Sarasota, Fla. was named single-family Builder of the Year with most homes certified with 282. Gables Residential of Atlanta, Ga. was multifamily Builder of the Year with 400 certified homes.
Points are awarded by FGBC for each of the individual green certifying levels - bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Numerical points are given for selecting and integrating individual environmentally friendly green products, best practices and sustainable techniques from a menu of available green options.
The highest scoring single-family home was built by Mac and Jo McCarraher in Umatilla, Fla. with a score of 239. The Lucian by Alys Beach Lucian Development LLC in Alys Beach, Fla. was the peak multifamily home with a score of 230. Both reached the Platinum level of certification.

Projects are visited, reviewed and certified by a third party green verifier. With over 17,000 certifications since being founded in 2000, FGBC is by far the largest certifier of green homes, residential communities and local governments in the state.
Unlike other national and international certifications, FGBC are only standards developed with Florida-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid climate, environment, unique topography and natural disasters.
FGBC’s five certifications provide pathways to build green homes, developments, local governments, high rises and commercial buildings. The process, including low fees, is often more affordable than other certifications. The free market aspect of FGBC certifiers also keep costs reasonable.
